Meet the cats
Yuja is our orange-and-white girl, and she runs the place. She's sensitive, particular, and deeply suspicious of change. She came to us straight off the streets, and it took two weeks before she'd even come out from behind the washing machine. Six years later, I still can't fully trim her nails — she'll let me hold her paw now, but touch it twice in a row and I get a warning hiss. She's a picky eater who will reject a food she loved yesterday, and a tsundere who wants to be petted right up until the second she decides she's done. We love her exactly as she is.
Mochi is our black-and-white tuxedo girl, and she's basically a dog in a cat's body. She flops over for belly rubs at the slightest touch, greets us at the door, headbutts anything that holds still, and happily eats whatever you put down. Where Yuja is cautious, Mochi is pure affection. She spends a good part of her day being gently bullied by her big sister — and following her around anyway.
Their story
Both girls started out as street cats. They were rescued and cared for by family before coming to live with us, and we took them in gladly — we'd wanted cats for a long time. Bringing home two formerly feral cats taught us that patience isn't optional; it's the whole job. A lot of what we've learned, we learned by getting it wrong first.
